Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be starting this blog up. I’m a 23-year-old working professional from Charleston, South Carolina now living in San Francisco.
Since moving out here, I’ve learned A LOT. I’m in my very first job at a great company and am learning all about the way the start-up world works. I’m learning how to make my own community of friends. Coming from the opposite side of the country, I didn’t know too many people moving out here and that in and of itself is quite the learning experience. But what has most affected my life is all that I’m learning about health and wellness.
Diet fads, food trends: How can we get even healthier??
California is obsessed with being healthy. Really, obsessed doesn’t even begin to cover it. There are so many diet fads and food trends popping up at restaurants every few months, it can be hard to keep up! My sister has been living in the Bay area for a while now and is one of those people who’s always on top of the latest trends. And I’ll admit:
I used to think she was crazy. I used to think her diet was crazy (I still think she as a person is crazy). “You’re drinking what kind of broth??” I’d say with confusion. To which she would respond: “Bone broth!”
The more time I spent here, the more I became intrigued by the foods and drinks that are always being instagrammed. Maybe matcha lattes are worth all the hype? I wanted to find out for myself. Enter blog.
What works and what doesn’t? Let’s find out!
For the past couple months, I’ve been reading all about the latest diet trends: the research that backs it up (or doesn’t) and testing out which of them work for me. So far, the results have been pretty awesome. I’ve lost about 25 lbs by changing my diet alone (bad knees and bronchitis prevented me from doing a lot of workouts). My energy and focus are better than they’ve ever been before, and my skin has less acne and more glow. It’s possible that I’m just drinking the Kool aid, but I’m starting to believe this stuff works.
As I’m learning all these new things, I wanted a place to share them. I wanted a place to document my favorite recipes and share with you all what I’ve discovered about the new foods and drinks that are making appearances in your local “foodie” restaurants.
Finally, I wanted a place to share with these things with those who find it hard to balance maintaining a healthy lifestyle with letting loose with your friends over margaritas and guacamole. This is something I am still figuring out. Sometimes I feel like I have it down and other times I don’t. Maybe that’s part of the journey. Regardless, finding that perfect balance is what I’m always striving to get down and can’t wait to share my findings with you all.
